David’s practice focuses on drafting and prosecuting patent applications and assisting clients in protecting and enforcing their patent rights. He works with clients across a broad range of technologies, including computer and software innovations, business methods, materials science, medical-related technologies, and mechanical devices.

​

David also has substantial experience managing foreign patent filing and prosecution strategies worldwide. He works closely with clients to develop cost-effective international filing plans by identifying the jurisdictions most likely to provide meaningful commercial value and strategic protection.

​

Before practicing law, David worked as an engineer on avionics and weapons computer systems for F/A-18 Hornet aircraft, a role that required a SECRET security clearance. He also served as a diagnostic engineer, where he developed software-based test programs for analyzing analog and digital circuits. His engineering background gives him a practical understanding of innovation and product development, and he is himself a co-inventor on two patents.

Since becoming a founding shareholder of Morriss O’Bryant Compagni Cannon, PLLC, David has devoted significant time to helping clients protect innovations in touch technology for computers and mobile devices, friction stir welding technologies for solid-state welding of high-melting-temperature materials, and chemical analysis technologies, including time-of-flight, ion mobility, and ion trap mass spectrometry.
